About

Dr. Daniel Thompson is a board-certified radiation oncologist with an MD and PhD from the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, where his doctoral research examined radiation sensitisation mechanisms in triple-negative breast cancer. He completed radiation oncology residency at MD Anderson and a postdoctoral fellowship in stereotactic radiosurgery, developing expertise in the application of high-precision radiation techniques across a broad range of oncological diagnoses.

Dr. Thompson's clinical practice encompasses intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), stereotactic body radiation therapy (SBRT), and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for brain metastases and primary brain tumours. He is one of a limited number of operators nationally with extensive experience in proton therapy for paediatric malignancies, base of skull tumours, and selected adult solid tumours where organ-at-risk sparing is paramount.

His research focus includes the development of novel biomarkers to predict radiation response and the application of adaptive radiation therapy — adjusting treatment plans in real time based on tumour and normal tissue changes during the treatment course. He has published more than 55 peer-reviewed papers in journals including the International Journal of Radiation Oncology, Biology, Physics and Radiotherapy and Oncology, and serves on the editorial board of the latter.

Dr. Thompson is dedicated to ensuring that the technical complexity of modern radiation therapy is translated into clear, accessible information for his patients. He runs a same-day consultation service for patients with newly diagnosed brain metastases requiring urgent SRS, ensuring that delays do not compromise treatment outcomes. He has received the American Society for Radiation Oncology's Junior Faculty Award and is a dedicated mentor to radiation oncology residents in treatment planning and clinical decision-making.
