Surgical Oncology
Surgical Oncology at SilverOak Health provides definitive surgical resection for solid malignancies with curative intent, as well as palliative surgical procedures that relieve obstruction, control bleeding, or restore function in patients with advanced disease. Our surgical oncologists are subspecialty-trained in site-specific tumour surgery — including breast, colorectal, hepatobiliary, upper GI, gynaecological, and urological oncology — and operate within dedicated tumour-specific MDTs that integrate surgical, medical, and radiation oncological expertise. Oncological surgical technique is guided by principles of adequate surgical margins, complete lymphadenectomy where indicated, and preservation of function and quality of life wherever oncologically safe. Minimally invasive and robotic-assisted approaches are employed for colorectal, gynaecological, urological, and thyroid cancers, achieving equivalent or superior oncological outcomes to open surgery with substantially reduced operative morbidity, blood loss, and recovery time. Neoadjuvant therapy — chemotherapy, targeted therapy, or chemoradiotherapy administered before surgery — is used for rectal cancer, gastric cancer, oesophageal cancer, locally advanced breast cancer, and selected other tumours to downstage disease and increase the proportion of patients achievable complete surgical resection. Our intraoperative frozen section capability enables real-time margin assessment during surgery, allowing immediate re-excision when positive margins are identified. Cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) is available for peritoneal surface malignancies including colorectal and ovarian peritoneal metastases in selected patients.
Transplant Medicine
Transplant Medicine at SilverOak Health is a highly specialised discipline encompassing the pre-transplant evaluation, organ allocation, perioperative management, and long-term follow-up of patients undergoing solid organ transplantation. Our transplant programme brings together hepatologists, nephrologists, cardiologists, transplant surgeons, immunologists, and specialist coordinators to deliver seamless, expert care across the entire transplant journey. Kidney transplantation is the most frequently performed transplant procedure at SilverOak. We facilitate both living donor and deceased donor transplants, supported by a comprehensive donor workup programme that ensures suitability and maximises recipient outcomes. Pre-transplant education, recipient listing, organ matching, and post-transplant immunosuppression management are all conducted within our integrated transplant pathway. Liver transplantation is undertaken for end-stage liver disease from causes including viral hepatitis, alcoholic cirrhosis, autoimmune liver disease, metabolic liver conditions, and acute liver failure. Our hepatology and transplant surgery teams collaborate closely in listing decisions, bridge therapy (including TIPSS and hepatocellular carcinoma locoregional therapy), and post-transplant surveillance for recurrent disease. Heart transplantation and ventricular assist device implantation are offered for patients with refractory end-stage heart failure. Urology
Urology at SilverOak Health provides comprehensive surgical and medical management of conditions affecting the urinary tract and male reproductive system. Our consultant urologists are fellowship-trained in urological oncology, endourology and stone disease, functional urology, and reconstructive urology, enabling subspecialty expertise within a comprehensive general urological service. Urological oncology is a major focus, with robotic-assisted prostatectomy, partial and radical nephrectomy, radical cystectomy with urinary diversion, and testicular cancer surgery performed by subspecialty-trained oncological urologists working within dedicated tumour-specific MDTs. Our urological cancer outcomes — including perioperative morbidity, oncological margin rates, and functional recovery of continence and potency — are prospectively collected and benchmarked against national registry data. Stone disease management encompasses flexible ureteroscopy with laser lithotripsy, percutaneous nephrolithotomy for large renal stones, extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy, and metabolic evaluation with targeted prevention strategies to reduce recurrence. Functional urology services address benign prostatic hyperplasia (using laser enucleation, TURP, and minimally invasive office-based treatments), overactive bladder, urinary incontinence in men and women (including artificial urinary sphincter implantation and male slings), erectile dysfunction, and Peyronie's disease. Urogynaecological collaboration ensures seamless management of female pelvic floor disorders requiring joint surgical expertise.
Vascular Surgery
Vascular Surgery at SilverOak Health provides comprehensive surgical and endovascular management of diseases affecting the arteries and veins outside the heart and brain. Our vascular surgeons are trained in open surgical reconstruction, endovascular techniques, and hybrid approaches, enabling treatment of the full spectrum of vascular pathology with the optimal strategy for each patient's anatomy, risk profile, and treatment goals. Arterial conditions managed include abdominal and thoracic aortic aneurysms (by endovascular aneurysm repair, EVAR, or open surgery), carotid artery stenosis (by carotid endarterectomy or carotid stenting for stroke prevention), peripheral arterial occlusive disease (by angioplasty, stenting, or bypass surgery), renal artery disease, mesenteric ischaemia, and acute arterial occlusion. Our aortic centre performs complex fenestrated and branched EVAR for juxtarenal and thoracoabdominal aneurysms, providing an endovascular option for patients with unfavourable anatomy for standard EVAR. Venous services address varicose veins (using endovenous thermal ablation, foam sclerotherapy, and phlebectomy), chronic venous insufficiency, deep vein thrombosis, May-Thurner syndrome, and post-thrombotic syndrome. Our diabetic foot vascular service is integrated with the multidisciplinary wound care and podiatry teams to provide revascularisation for patients with critical limb-threatening ischaemia, reducing major amputation rates through timely restoration of arterial perfusion. All complex vascular cases are discussed at our weekly vascular MDT attended by radiologists, cardiologists, and anaesthesiologists.
