Pulmonology and Respiratory Medicine at SilverOak Health provides expert management of acute and chronic lung conditions, utilising advanced diagnostic technology and evidence-based treatment protocols to optimise respiratory function and quality of life. Our consultant respiratory physicians hold subspecialty interests in obstructive lung disease, interstitial lung disease, pulmonary hypertension, respiratory oncology, pleural disease, and sleep-disordered breathing.
Diagnostic capabilities include comprehensive pulmonary function testing (spirometry, lung volumes, DLCO, bronchoprovocation), bronchoscopy with BAL, transbronchial biopsy, and endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) for mediastinal staging, CT-guided lung biopsy, pleural aspiration and biopsy, and cardiopulmonary exercise testing. Our thoracic MDT meets weekly, bringing together respiratory physicians, thoracic surgeons, radiologists, and oncologists to plan management for lung cancer and complex respiratory cases requiring multidisciplinary input.
COPD management integrates optimised inhaler therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, smoking cessation support, nutritional optimisation, and early supported discharge for exacerbations. Our interstitial lung disease clinic manages IPF, hypersensitivity pneumonitis, connective tissue disease-related ILD, and sarcoidosis, with antifibrotic therapy initiated for progressive fibrotic ILD according to current guidelines. Pleural services include ultrasound-guided drainage, indwelling pleural catheter insertion for recurrent malignant effusions, and medical thoracoscopy. The pulmonary hypertension clinic works in close collaboration with cardiology to optimise vasodilator therapy in this challenging condition.
