About

Dr. Amanda Johnson is a board-certified neurologist and epilepsy specialist, having earned her medical degree from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons. She completed neurology residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and a clinical neurophysiology and epilepsy fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic Epilepsy Center, one of the highest-volume epilepsy surgery programmes in North America, where she developed expertise in presurgical epilepsy evaluation and intraoperative electrocorticography.

Dr. Johnson's clinical focus is the evaluation and management of drug-resistant epilepsy, including the complete presurgical evaluation pathway from long-term video-EEG monitoring and neuropsychological testing to advanced neuroimaging with high-resolution MRI, PET, SPECT, and magnetoencephalography. She works closely with neurosurgical colleagues to evaluate surgical candidacy for lesionectomy, temporal lobectomy, corpus callosotomy, and resective or disconnective procedures, as well as neuromodulation options including vagus nerve stimulation and responsive neurostimulation.

Her research investigates EEG biomarkers of epileptogenesis and the application of machine learning to interictal EEG data for seizure prediction and localisation of the epileptogenic zone. She has published in Epilepsia and Brain, and has been invited to speak at the American Epilepsy Society annual meeting on multiple occasions.

Dr. Johnson brings extraordinary patience and sensitivity to the care of patients living with epilepsy, recognising the profound impact of seizure disorders on driving, employment, social relationships, and psychological wellbeing. She leads a multidisciplinary epilepsy clinic that includes social work, neuropsychology, and medication review to address all dimensions of epilepsy management. She was named Columbia's Outstanding Resident Educator during her training and continues to mentor neurology residents in epilepsy monitoring techniques.
