Stereotactic Radiosurgery (CyberKnife)

Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) using the CyberKnife system delivers highly focused beams of radiation with sub-millimetre accuracy to tumours and other targets anywhere in the body, achieving ablative doses that destroy target tissue while sparing surrounding normal structures. Despite the name, no surgical incision is made — the procedure is entirely non-invasive, typically completed in one to five outpatient sessions, and requires no anaesthesia.

At SilverOak Health, CyberKnife SRS is used for intracranial indications including brain metastases, meningiomas, acoustic neuromas (vestibular schwannomas), arteriovenous malformations, and trigeminal neuralgia, as well as extracranial applications including spinal metastases, early-stage lung cancer, liver tumours, prostate cancer, and pancreatic lesions. Real-time tumour tracking using fiducial markers or the spine as a reference corrects for patient movement and breathing motion throughout treatment delivery, ensuring the radiation beam follows the tumour precisely.

The accuracy of CyberKnife treatment is reviewed in our weekly multidisciplinary tumour board, ensuring every case is discussed by radiation oncologists, neurosurgeons, medical oncologists, and neuroradiologists before treatment commences. Clinical outcomes for our CyberKnife programme — including local control rates, toxicity, and quality of life — are prospectively collected and benchmarked against published international standards.
