Pain Medicine

Pain Medicine at SilverOak Health provides specialist assessment and multidisciplinary management of patients with complex acute, subacute, and chronic pain conditions. Our pain medicine physicians — anaesthesiologists with subspecialty training in pain management — take a biopsychosocial approach that addresses the neurobiological, psychological, and social dimensions of pain, delivering care that goes well beyond pharmacological management alone.

Interventional procedures include epidural steroid injections, selective nerve root blocks, facet joint medial branch blocks and radiofrequency neurotomy, sacroiliac joint injections, trigger point injections, coeliac plexus blocks, sympathetic blocks, intrathecal drug delivery system implantation, and spinal cord stimulation. Each procedure is performed under fluoroscopic or ultrasound guidance with sterile technique, and is preceded by thorough clinical assessment to ensure that the procedure is targeting the correct pain generator and is likely to provide meaningful benefit.

Psychological support — including pain-focused CBT, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness-based stress reduction, and graded activity programmes — is integrated into our pain management programme, recognising that the neuroplastic and emotional components of chronic pain are as important as its physical drivers. Our interdisciplinary pain management programme is evidence-based and designed for patients with complex chronic pain who have not responded to unimodal treatment, providing a structured intensive rehabilitation approach that improves function, reduces distress, and decreases medication dependence over a four-week residential or outpatient format.
