Gastroenterology and Hepatology at SilverOak Health provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for conditions affecting the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary tract. Our consultant gastroenterologists and hepatologists hold subspecialty interests in inflammatory bowel disease, advanced endoscopy, liver disease and transplantation, gastrointestinal oncology, and functional GI disorders.
Endoscopic services include upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, capsule endoscopy, double balloon enteroscopy for small bowel pathology, and a comprehensive therapeutic endoscopy programme encompassing polypectomy, endoscopic mucosal and submucosal resection, oesophageal and colonic stenting, variceal band ligation, haemostasis procedures, and percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy placement. Our endoscopy unit achieves adenoma detection rates and caecal intubation rates consistently above national quality standards.
Hepatology services address all forms of chronic liver disease including viral hepatitis B and C (managed with curative direct-acting antiviral regimens), non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, alcoholic liver disease, autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cholangitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, Wilson's disease, and haemochromatosis. Liver fibrosis assessment using non-invasive FibroScan elastography guides surveillance and treatment intensity. Our multidisciplinary liver MDT coordinates the management of patients with cirrhosis, portal hypertension, hepatocellular carcinoma, and those being considered for liver transplantation, working in close collaboration with hepatobiliary surgery and interventional radiology.
