About
Dr. Thomas Harris is a board-certified medical oncologist and surgical oncologist with 21 years of experience in the comprehensive management of solid tumours. He earned his medical degree from Weill Cornell Medicine through the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center partnership programme, completing surgical oncology training at Memorial Sloan Kettering — one of the world's premier cancer surgery centres — before further subspecialising in breast and gastrointestinal malignancies.
Dr. Harris's surgical oncology practice encompasses breast cancer surgery including skin-sparing and nipple-sparing mastectomy with immediate reconstruction, sentinel lymph node biopsy, and oncoplastic breast conservation procedures. His gastrointestinal oncology expertise includes hepatic resection for metastatic colorectal cancer, pancreaticoduodenectomy for pancreatic malignancy, and cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) for peritoneal surface malignancies.
He leads a multidisciplinary tumour board that reviews every breast and gastrointestinal cancer case before treatment planning, ensuring that each patient benefits from the collective expertise of surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, radiologists, and pathologists. His research has addressed margins in breast conserving surgery, patterns of recurrence in resected pancreatic cancer, and outcomes following HIPEC in appendiceal neoplasms, with publications in Annals of Surgery and the Journal of Clinical Oncology.
Dr. Harris is known for his unwavering commitment to his patients during what is frequently the most challenging period of their lives. He provides clear, honest discussions about prognosis and treatment options, ensuring informed consent is a genuine process rather than a formality. He has received the American College of Surgeons Award for Outstanding Contribution to Cancer Surgery Education and serves on the surgical oncology committee of the National Cancer Institute.
