Radiation Oncology

Radiation Oncology at SilverOak Health designs and delivers precision radiation treatment for patients with malignant and selected benign conditions, using advanced treatment planning and delivery technology to maximise tumour dose while protecting surrounding healthy tissues. Our radiation oncologists are subspecialty-trained in specific tumour sites, ensuring expert knowledge of the complex dosimetric, anatomical, and clinical factors that determine treatment outcomes.

Treatment modalities include intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT), volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT), stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for lung, liver, spine, and prostate, and stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) for intracranial targets. Image-guided radiation therapy (IGRT) with daily pre-treatment cone beam CT ensures accurate tumour targeting at every fraction, accounting for day-to-day positional variation and organ motion. Deep inspiration breath-hold techniques for left-sided breast cancer treatment significantly reduce cardiac radiation exposure compared to conventional free-breathing approaches.

Brachytherapy — delivering radiation from a sealed source placed within or adjacent to the tumour — is offered for cervical cancer (intracavitary and interstitial), endometrial cancer, prostate cancer (low dose rate seeds and high dose rate), and skin cancers. Our radiotherapy team participates in weekly combined oncology MDTs for all major tumour types, ensuring that radiation treatment decisions are made in the full context of systemic therapy timing and sequencing. Patient education, skin care support, and acute toxicity management are provided by our specialist radiotherapy review nurses throughout the treatment course.
