Medical Oncology
Medical Oncology at SilverOak Health provides expert systemic anticancer therapy across all tumour types, combining the latest evidence-based treatment protocols with deeply personalised care that addresses each patient's cancer biology, performance status, comorbidities, and personal treatment goals. Our medical oncologists lead tumour-specific multidisciplinary teams and participate in national and international clinical trials, ensuring our patients have access to the most current and promising treatment options.
Systemic therapies administered include conventional cytotoxic chemotherapy, targeted therapy matched to molecular tumour profiles, immune checkpoint inhibition and other immunotherapies, antibody-drug conjugates, hormone therapies, and combinations thereof. Our day chemotherapy unit is equipped with electronic prescribing, pharmacist-led therapy verification, and experienced oncology nurses who provide proactive toxicity monitoring and symptom management throughout treatment.
Tumour molecular profiling using next-generation sequencing enables identification of actionable driver mutations, predictive biomarkers including PD-L1 expression, tumour mutational burden, and microsatellite instability status, and emerging resistance mechanisms, all of which guide treatment sequencing and clinical trial eligibility. Liquid biopsy using circulating tumour DNA provides real-time monitoring of treatment response and early resistance detection. Our medical oncologists work alongside palliative care specialists, oncology dietitians, and oncology social workers to deliver truly comprehensive cancer care from diagnosis through survivorship or end-of-life.
