CAR-T Cell Therapy
Chimeric antigen receptor T-cell (CAR-T) therapy is one of the most transformative advances in oncology in recent decades, offering the potential for durable remission in patients with relapsed or refractory haematological malignancies who have exhausted conventional treatment options. SilverOak Health is an accredited CAR-T treatment centre, certified to administer commercially approved products and enrol patients in early-phase clinical trials of next-generation constructs.
The CAR-T process begins with leukapheresis — collection of the patient's own T lymphocytes from the blood. These cells are transported to the manufacturing facility where they are genetically engineered using viral vectors to express a chimeric antigen receptor targeting a specific tumour surface protein — most commonly CD19 for B-cell malignancies or BCMA for multiple myeloma. After expansion to clinical-grade numbers over approximately two to three weeks, the modified cells are infused back into the patient following lymphodepleting chemotherapy.
SilverOak's CAR-T programme is supported by a dedicated cellular therapy unit with specialist haematology nurses, pharmacists, intensivists, and neurologists trained in the recognition and management of cytokine release syndrome and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome — the two principal toxicities of CAR-T therapy. Our multidisciplinary cellular therapy team reviews every patient's eligibility, manufactures the treatment timeline, manages bridging therapy during manufacturing, and conducts structured long-term follow-up to monitor for response durability, late toxicity, and B-cell aplasia requiring immunoglobulin supplementation.
