Dr. James Hartwell

Dr. James Hartwell is a board-certified cardiologist and Fellow of the American College of Cardiology with 22 years of clinical experience in interventional cardiology and structural heart disease. He completed his medical degree at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, followed by cardiology fellowship at Brigham and Women's Hospital and an advanced interventional fellowship at Cleveland Clinic, where he trained in complex coronary intervention and transcatheter structural procedures.

Dr. Hartwell's clinical practice centres on complex percutaneous coronary intervention, including chronic total occlusion revascularisation, left main coronary stenting, and high-risk PCI supported by haemodynamic assist devices. He is one of a select group of operators nationally with extensive experience in transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), performing over 400 cases, as well as transcatheter mitral edge-to-edge repair (TEER) for severe mitral regurgitation in high-surgical-risk patients.

His research contributions span peer-reviewed publications in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology and Circulation: Cardiovascular Interventions, with a focus on outcomes optimisation in structural heart disease and pharmacological adjuncts to reduce peri-procedural myocardial injury. He is a principal investigator on two prospective registries examining long-term outcomes following TAVR in patients with bicuspid aortic valve anatomy.
