Infectious Diseases

Infectious Diseases at SilverOak Health provides specialist assessment and management of complex infections — whether community-acquired, healthcare-associated, or opportunistic in the context of immunosuppression. Our infectious disease physicians work across the hospital as consultants for complex infection management, antimicrobial stewardship, and infection prevention, as well as running dedicated outpatient clinics for chronic and emerging infectious conditions.

Clinical areas of focus include bacteraemia and endocarditis, bone and joint infections (osteomyelitis, prosthetic joint infection), complex skin and soft tissue infections including necrotising fasciitis, central nervous system infections (meningitis, encephalitis, brain abscess), respiratory infections including tuberculosis and atypical pneumonias, urological and hepatobiliary infections, infections in immunocompromised patients (solid organ transplant, haematological malignancy, HIV), and travel-related illnesses.

HIV medicine is a core component of our infectious diseases service, providing comprehensive antiretroviral therapy initiation and monitoring, opportunistic infection prophylaxis and treatment, pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) for HIV prevention, and sexual health services. Our antimicrobial stewardship programme reviews antibiotic prescribing across all inpatient wards, reducing inappropriate use, minimising the emergence of antimicrobial resistance, and ensuring that patients with serious infections receive prompt, appropriately targeted therapy based on microbiological culture results and local resistance patterns.
