Surgical Oncology

Surgical Oncology at SilverOak Health provides definitive surgical resection for solid malignancies with curative intent, as well as palliative surgical procedures that relieve obstruction, control bleeding, or restore function in patients with advanced disease. Our surgical oncologists are subspecialty-trained in site-specific tumour surgery — including breast, colorectal, hepatobiliary, upper GI, gynaecological, and urological oncology — and operate within dedicated tumour-specific MDTs that integrate surgical, medical, and radiation oncological expertise.

Oncological surgical technique is guided by principles of adequate surgical margins, complete lymphadenectomy where indicated, and preservation of function and quality of life wherever oncologically safe. Minimally invasive and robotic-assisted approaches are employed for colorectal, gynaecological, urological, and thyroid cancers, achieving equivalent or superior oncological outcomes to open surgery with substantially reduced operative morbidity, blood loss, and recovery time.

Neoadjuvant therapy — chemotherapy, targeted therapy, or chemoradiotherapy administered before surgery — is used for rectal cancer, gastric cancer, oesophageal cancer, locally advanced breast cancer, and selected other tumours to downstage disease and increase the proportion of patients achievable complete surgical resection. Our intraoperative frozen section capability enables real-time margin assessment during surgery, allowing immediate re-excision when positive margins are identified. Cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) is available for peritoneal surface malignancies including colorectal and ovarian peritoneal metastases in selected patients.
