Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at SilverOak Health delivers a wide range of surgical procedures aimed at restoring form and function after trauma, cancer, congenital anomaly, or burns, as well as elective cosmetic surgery to improve appearance and self-confidence. Our consultant plastic surgeons combine microsurgical expertise with aesthetic sensibility to achieve outcomes that are both functionally sound and cosmetically excellent.

Oncoplastic and reconstructive surgery is a major focus of our practice. Breast reconstruction following mastectomy — using implant-based techniques, autologous flap reconstruction (DIEP, TRAM, latissimus dorsi), or a combination — is performed in close collaboration with our breast surgical oncologists. Reconstruction of head and neck defects following cancer resection, using free tissue transfer and local flaps, restores speech, swallowing, and facial appearance for patients undergoing major ablative surgery.

Hand surgery encompasses the management of traumatic injuries including tendon, nerve, and vascular lacerations, as well as reconstructive procedures for conditions such as Dupuytren's contracture, carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, and congenital hand anomalies. Our hand therapists work alongside surgeons to optimise functional recovery through splinting, exercise, and sensory re-education.

Skin cancer surgery — including wide local excision of melanoma, Mohs micrographic surgery for non-melanoma skin cancer, and sentinel lymph node biopsy — is performed by our plastic surgeons with subspecialty training in cutaneous oncology. Complex defect closure using flaps and skin grafts achieves excellent oncological and cosmetic results even in challenging anatomical locations.

Burns care at SilverOak covers acute management of significant thermal, chemical, and electrical burns, including early excision and skin grafting, as well as long-term scar management and reconstructive surgery for established burn contractures. Our burns team includes specialist nurses, physiotherapists, and psychologists who support patients through the physically and emotionally demanding recovery process.
