Maternal-Foetal Medicine

Maternal-Foetal Medicine (MFM) at SilverOak Health provides subspecialty obstetric care for pregnancies at increased risk due to maternal medical conditions, previous obstetric complications, or identified foetal abnormalities. Our MFM specialists work as an integrated component of the obstetric team, providing targeted expertise and coordination with medical subspecialists to achieve the best possible outcomes for both mother and baby.

Maternal conditions managed within our MFM programme include pre-existing diabetes, cardiac disease, chronic hypertension, renal disease, autoimmune conditions including lupus and antiphospholipid syndrome, thrombophilias, haematological disorders, and neurological conditions. Detailed risk stratification at booking, optimised pre-conception counselling, and close surveillance throughout pregnancy — with monitoring intervals and delivery planning individualised to each condition — minimise the risk of adverse maternal and neonatal outcomes.

Foetal medicine services include first trimester combined screening, detailed anomaly scanning, foetal growth and Doppler surveillance, foetal echocardiography, and invasive diagnostic testing (CVS and amniocentesis with a procedural complication rate below 0.5%). Our foetal anomaly MDT meets weekly, bringing together MFM specialists, paediatric surgeons, neonatologists, clinical geneticists, and paediatric cardiologists to provide comprehensive counselling and delivery planning for families facing significant prenatal diagnoses. In utero interventions available include laser therapy for twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome, thoracocentesis for foetal pleural effusions, and intrauterine transfusion for foetal anaemia.
