About Silvaris Children's Hospital — Charlotte, NC
SilverOak Children's Hospital in Charlotte is the Carolinas' premier destination for pediatric specialty and subspecialty care — a 240-bed facility designed from the ground up to meet the unique medical, developmental, and emotional needs of patients from birth through age 21. Every dimension of our environment, from the cheerful murals in our corridors to the family sleep rooms adjacent to every inpatient suite, reflects our conviction that healing is inseparable from comfort, play, and the presence of loved ones.
Our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is one of the largest in the region, providing life-sustaining care for premature infants born as early as 23 weeks of gestation. Our neonatologists, neonatal nurses, and respiratory therapists work alongside developmental specialists and lactation consultants to optimize both survival and long-term neurodevelopmental outcomes. Families have 24-hour access to the NICU and are actively involved in all care decisions through our family-centered rounds model.
The subspecialty breadth of SilverOak Children's Charlotte is comparable to that of major freestanding children's hospitals. Our pediatric cardiac program performs interventional catheterization and open-heart surgery for the full range of congenital heart defects. Pediatric oncology, hematology, bone marrow transplant, and solid tumor surgery are available on-site, with seamless coordination with adult SilverOak oncology services for adolescents transitioning to adult care. Pediatric neurology, nephrology, gastroenterology, and pulmonology clinics operate multiple days per week.
Family-centered care at SilverOak Children's Charlotte means treating parents and guardians as essential members of the clinical team. Our Child Life specialists are present on every inpatient unit, providing age-appropriate preparation for procedures, therapeutic play, and emotional support that measurably reduces pain scores and length of stay. A fully licensed K-12 teacher provides bedside and classroom instruction for school-age inpatients so that education continues without interruption during even prolonged hospitalizations.
