Paediatric Medicine & Surgery Centre
The Paediatric Medicine & Surgery Centre at SilverOak Health provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for children from the newborn period through adolescence, managed by a dedicated paediatric team that understands the unique physiological, developmental, and emotional needs of children and their families. Our consultant paediatricians, paediatric surgeons, paediatric anaesthesiologists, and paediatric specialist nurses deliver care in a child-friendly environment designed to minimise distress and support family involvement at every step.
General paediatric medicine encompasses the assessment and management of acute childhood illnesses — respiratory infections, febrile illness, gastroenteritis, urinary tract infections, and seizures — alongside chronic condition management for asthma, eczema, diabetes, epilepsy, inflammatory bowel disease, and coeliac disease. Our paediatric emergency pathway provides rapid assessment and treatment for children presenting with acute illness, with paediatricians available around the clock to manage life-threatening conditions including anaphylaxis, status epilepticus, and sepsis.
Neonatal services provide expert care for newborns requiring medical attention — including prematurity, respiratory distress syndrome, neonatal jaundice, neonatal infections, and congenital anomalies identified antenatally. Our neonatologists work closely with our maternal-foetal medicine team to ensure seamless transition of care for high-risk pregnancies. Newborn hearing screening, metabolic screening, and developmental surveillance are integrated into our postnatal care pathway.
Paediatric surgery at our centre addresses congenital anomalies including pyloric stenosis, intussusception, malrotation with volvulus, inguinal hernia, and undescended testis, as well as acquired conditions including appendicitis, adhesive bowel obstruction, and trauma. Minimally invasive surgical approaches — laparoscopic appendicectomy, laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication, and thoracoscopic procedures — are standard for appropriate cases, minimising surgical trauma and accelerating recovery in children.
Paediatric subspecialty services — including paediatric neurology, paediatric cardiology, paediatric endocrinology, paediatric rheumatology, paediatric nephrology, and paediatric haematology — are available through our integrated multidisciplinary programme, ensuring children with complex multisystem conditions receive coordinated care from all relevant subspecialties. Child protection evaluation and safeguarding support is embedded within our paediatric service. Our family-centred care model keeps parents and carers fully informed and actively involved in every aspect of their child's care.
