Dr. Patricia Nelson

Dr. Patricia Nelson is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists with 20 years of experience in maternal-foetal medicine and high-risk obstetrics. She earned her medical degree from Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed obstetrics and gynaecology residency at Georgetown University Hospital, followed by a maternal-foetal medicine fellowship at the University of California San Francisco, where she trained in the management of complex medical and obstetric complications of pregnancy.

Dr. Nelson's clinical practice is dedicated to the care of women with high-risk pregnancies, including those with pre-existing medical conditions such as cardiac disease, diabetes, autoimmune disorders, and renal disease complicating pregnancy, as well as obstetric complications including twin and higher-order multiple pregnancies, placenta previa and accreta spectrum, foetal growth restriction, and hypertensive disorders of pregnancy including severe preeclampsia.

She has particular expertise in foetal diagnosis and intervention, including detailed anatomical ultrasound, foetal echocardiography, amniocentesis and chorionic villus sampling for prenatal genetic diagnosis, and intrauterine procedures including foetal blood transfusion for haemolytic disease of the foetus and newborn. She leads a multidisciplinary foetal medicine team and co-chairs the regional perinatal network that coordinates care for complex foetal and maternal conditions across the region.

Dr. Nelson is a compassionate communicator who understands the emotional weight carried by women and families facing a high-risk pregnancy. She provides continuity of care through the antenatal, intrapartum, and early postnatal periods and works closely with neonatology, paediatric cardiology, and paediatric surgery when foetal diagnoses require coordinated neonatal care. She has been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor for fifteen consecutive years and has mentored over 30 maternal-foetal medicine fellows.
