Spine & Neurosurgery Centre

The Spine & Neurosurgery Centre at SilverOak Health provides surgical management of conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, and peripheral nerves, with a particular emphasis on minimally invasive and robotic-assisted techniques that minimise surgical trauma and accelerate patient recovery. Our neurosurgeons hold dual training in cranial and spinal neurosurgical techniques, enabling a comprehensive operative capability for the full spectrum of neurological and spinal conditions.

Brain tumour surgery employs neuronavigation, intraoperative MRI, 5-ALA fluorescence-guided resection, and awake craniotomy with cortical and subcortical stimulation mapping to maximise the extent of safe tumour removal while preserving neurological function. Endoscopic approaches — through natural anatomical corridors including the nasal cavity for pituitary tumours and transsphenoidal routes — avoid brain retraction and provide excellent exposure with minimal surgical footprint. Vascular neurosurgery addresses intracranial aneurysms by microsurgical clipping, AVM resection, and EC-IC bypass for complex occlusive cerebrovascular disease.

Spine surgery at our centre covers the full spectrum from cervical to sacral spine. Minimally invasive techniques — tubular microdiscectomy, percutaneous pedicle screw fixation, lateral lumbar interbody fusion, and endoscopic spine surgery — are standard for appropriate cases, reducing muscle damage, blood loss, post-operative pain, and hospital stay. Navigation-assisted and robotic-guided implant placement ensures sub-millimetre accuracy for complex fusion procedures and revision surgery.

Complex spinal deformity correction for adult scoliosis, kyphosis, and flatback syndrome is performed with intraoperative neurophysiology monitoring and staged planning to minimise neurological and systemic complications. Spinal cord tumour surgery — including intradural-extramedullary and intramedullary lesions — uses intraoperative neuromonitoring and ultrasonic aspiration for safe resection. Chiari malformation decompression, tethered cord release, and syrinx management complete our spinal neurosurgery repertoire.

Our neuro-oncology MDT meets weekly to integrate neurosurgical, radiation oncological, and medical oncological management for every brain and spinal tumour patient. The spine MDT brings together neurosurgeons, neurologists, pain physicians, and physiotherapists to ensure that surgery is recommended only when all conservative options have been appropriately explored. Our surgical outcomes — including perioperative complication rates, neurological preservation, and functional recovery scores — are prospectively collected and audited annually.
