Dr. Dorothy Cooper

Dr. Dorothy Cooper is a board-certified pulmonologist who earned her medical degree from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans and completed internal medicine residency and pulmonary medicine fellowship at Tulane University Hospital. Her training in the post-Hurricane Katrina environment gave her a profound appreciation for the social determinants of respiratory health and the impact of environmental exposures — including indoor mould and outdoor air pollution — on lung disease.

Dr. Cooper's clinical practice emphasises the management of asthma across the severity spectrum, from mild intermittent disease through severe refractory asthma requiring biologic therapy with anti-IgE, anti-IL-5, anti-IL-4/13, and anti-TSLP agents. She runs a dedicated difficult asthma clinic that reviews all patients with suboptimally controlled asthma to exclude complicating diagnoses, optimise inhaler technique and adherence, address comorbidities, and select appropriate biologic therapy.

She also manages COPD, bronchiectasis, and chronic cough, and has a particular interest in environmental and occupational lung disease, evaluating patients with work-related respiratory conditions and collaborating with occupational medicine physicians and public health authorities to identify and reduce workplace exposures. Her clinic operates in both English and French, reflecting her multilingual background and New Orleans training.

Dr. Cooper has published on biologic therapy outcomes in severe asthma and on the respiratory health effects of indoor allergen exposure in low-income urban housing. She is an active member of the American Thoracic Society and serves on its environmental health policy committee. She is deeply committed to health equity in respiratory medicine, conducting community asthma education programmes in schools and community centres serving high-prevalence urban neighbourhoods.
