Gastroenterology & Hepatology Centre
The Gastroenterology & Hepatology Centre at SilverOak Health provides comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic services for conditions affecting the oesophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, liver, pancreas, and biliary tract. Our consultant gastroenterologists and hepatologists hold subspecialty interests in inflammatory bowel disease, advanced endoscopy, liver disease, gastrointestinal oncology, and functional gastrointestinal disorders, delivering care that integrates the most current evidence with individualised patient management.
Endoscopy services encompass upper GI endoscopy, colonoscopy, flexible sigmoidoscopy, and capsule endoscopy for small bowel imaging. Our therapeutic endoscopy programme includes polypectomy using cold snare and hot snare techniques, endoscopic mucosal resection and endoscopic submucosal dissection for large polyps and early cancers, variceal band ligation and cyanoacrylate injection for portal hypertension complications, oesophageal and colonic stenting, and ERCP with sphincterotomy, biliary stenting, and stone extraction for biliary and pancreatic duct pathology.
Inflammatory bowel disease — Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis — is managed within a dedicated IBD service providing biological therapy initiation and monitoring, therapeutic drug monitoring to optimise anti-TNF and anti-integrin drug levels, small bowel imaging with MRI enterography, and close collaboration with colorectal surgery and IBD specialist nurses for flare management and surgical planning. Our IBD service participates in national audit and quality improvement programmes to benchmark outcomes and patient experience.
Hepatology services address all forms of chronic liver disease. Viral hepatitis B and C — now potentially curable with modern direct-acting antiviral regimens — are managed with the most up-to-date treatment protocols. Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, alcoholic hepatitis, autoimmune hepatitis, primary biliary cholangitis, primary sclerosing cholangitis, Wilson's disease, and haemochromatosis are all managed in specialist hepatology clinics. Non-invasive liver fibrosis assessment using Fibroscan elastography and serum biomarkers guides surveillance intensity and treatment decisions.
Our multidisciplinary liver MDT coordinates management of cirrhosis complications — ascites, hepatic encephalopathy, variceal bleeding, and hepatorenal syndrome — hepatocellular carcinoma surveillance and treatment using ablation, TACE, SIRT, and systemic therapy, and transplant referral for end-stage liver disease. Interventional radiology — TIPSS for refractory ascites and refractory variceal bleeding — is available within our hepatology programme. Nutritional assessment and dietetic support are integral to all hepatology and IBD patient management.
