Interventional Cardiology & Structural Heart Centre

The Interventional Cardiology & Structural Heart Centre at SilverOak Health specialises in catheter-based diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, and congenital heart defects, offering minimally invasive alternatives to open cardiac surgery for an expanding range of conditions. Our catheterisation laboratories are equipped with the latest biplane fluoroscopy, intravascular imaging, and haemodynamic monitoring technology, supporting both elective and emergency interventional procedures around the clock.

Coronary interventions encompass diagnostic angiography, percutaneous coronary intervention with drug-eluting stent implantation, rotational atherectomy for severely calcified lesions, and physiological assessment with FFR and iFR to guide the decision to intervene in intermediate coronary stenoses. Intravascular imaging using OCT and IVUS optimises stent sizing, positioning, and expansion, reducing the risk of stent thrombosis and restenosis. Our primary PCI programme for STEMI maintains door-to-balloon times within 60 minutes, significantly reducing infarct size and improving outcomes for the most time-critical cardiac emergencies.

Structural heart interventions represent the most dynamic area of growth in our programme. Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) for severe aortic stenosis is performed via transfemoral access under local anaesthesia and light sedation, with most patients discharged within two to three days. MitraClip edge-to-edge repair for functional and degenerative mitral regurgitation, left atrial appendage occlusion for stroke prevention in atrial fibrillation patients unsuitable for anticoagulation, and patent foramen ovale closure for cryptogenic stroke are further interventions in our structural heart portfolio.

Every structural heart case is evaluated through our multidisciplinary heart team meeting, bringing together interventional cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, echocardiographers, and cardiac anaesthesiologists to ensure the most appropriate treatment is recommended for each patient. Transcatheter tricuspid valve interventions and transcatheter pulmonary valve replacement are also available for selected patients with complex valvular disease. Our structural heart programme contributes outcomes data to national registries, enabling transparent benchmarking and quality improvement.

Renal denervation for resistant hypertension, transcatheter closure of paravalvular leaks after surgical valve replacement, alcohol septal ablation for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, and management of complex coronary anatomy including chronic total occlusion revascularisation complete the breadth of our interventional cardiology offering. Our programme is supported by a dedicated catheterisation laboratory nursing team, perfusionists, and cardiac anaesthesiologists with subspecialty interventional experience.
