About

Dr. Diana Stewart is a board-certified nephrologist with dual training in adult and paediatric nephrology, having completed her medical degree and paediatric nephrology fellowship at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia before undertaking adult nephrology fellowship at University of Pennsylvania. This unique training pathway gives her the ability to manage patients across the age spectrum, with a particular focus on the care of young adults with childhood-onset renal disease who transition from paediatric to adult nephrology services.

Dr. Stewart's clinical practice encompasses adult nephrology with a subspecialty focus on transplant nephrology, glomerular disease, and the care of patients with inherited renal conditions including Alport syndrome, polycystic kidney disease, and congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract. Her expertise in transition nephrology ensures that young adults with childhood-onset CKD receive a seamless, appropriately adapted service that recognises the distinct psychological and medical needs of this age group.

She participates actively in the transplant programme, managing pre- and post-transplant care for both paediatric and young adult kidney transplant recipients. Her research addresses the management of chronic allograft dysfunction in young transplant recipients, long-term outcomes in transition nephrology, and quality of life in young adults with end-stage renal disease. She has published in the American Journal of Kidney Diseases and Pediatric Nephrology.

Dr. Stewart is passionate about supporting the psychological dimension of living with chronic kidney disease as a young person, including the impact on education, employment, and relationships. She leads a monthly young adults with kidney disease support group that integrates peer support with clinical education, and collaborates with social work, clinical psychology, and vocational rehabilitation to address the full impact of renal disease on young people's lives.
