Gastrointestinal Cancer Centre
The Gastrointestinal Cancer Centre at SilverOak Health provides comprehensive care for cancers of the oesophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, biliary tract, small intestine, colon, rectum, and anus within a fully integrated multidisciplinary programme. Our GI oncology team — comprising surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, hepatobiliary surgeons, gastroenterologists, and radiologists — meets at weekly GI tumour board meetings to plan personalised treatment for every patient.
Colorectal cancer surgery is performed using robotic-assisted and laparoscopic techniques — right and left hemicolectomy, anterior resection, abdominoperineal resection, and total mesorectal excision — achieving complete oncological clearance with reduced morbidity and faster recovery compared to open surgery. Transanal minimally invasive surgery (TAMIS) and transanal total mesorectal excision (TaTME) are available for select rectal cancers. Cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) is offered for peritoneal surface malignancies in selected patients.
Upper GI oncology encompasses oesophagectomy (Ivor Lewis and three-stage approaches), total and subtotal gastrectomy with D2 lymphadenectomy, and pancreaticoduodenectomy (Whipple procedure) and distal pancreatectomy for pancreatic and periampullary cancers. Hepatectomy for primary hepatocellular carcinoma and colorectal liver metastases, cholecystectomy for gallbladder cancer, and bile duct resection for cholangiocarcinoma are performed by our specialist hepatobiliary surgeons. Neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy and perioperative chemotherapy are used to downstage resectable and borderline-resectable tumours.
Endoscopic oncology services include endoscopic mucosal resection and submucosal dissection for early oesophageal and gastric cancers, polypectomy and endoscopic treatment of early colorectal lesions, biliary stenting for obstructive jaundice, and EUS-guided sampling and ablation. ERCP for biliary access, cholangioscopy for bile duct lesion evaluation, and palliation of malignant gastric outlet obstruction with enteral stenting are provided by our advanced endoscopy team.
Systemic therapy for GI cancers includes fluoropyrimidine-based chemotherapy, targeted agents such as anti-EGFR antibodies for RAS wild-type colorectal cancer, anti-VEGF therapy, HER2-targeted treatment for gastric and oesophageal adenocarcinoma, FOLFOX-based regimens for hepatocellular carcinoma, and immune checkpoint inhibition for MSI-high and dMMR tumours across multiple GI cancer types. Nutritional support, including perioperative enhanced recovery, is integral to our programme.
