The Joint Replacement Centre at SilverOak Health is a high-volume, dedicated programme for primary and revision arthroplasty of the knee, hip, shoulder, and ankle, combining robotic-arm assisted surgical precision with evidence-based enhanced recovery pathways to deliver consistent, excellent functional outcomes for patients with end-stage joint arthritis and other joint-destructive conditions.

Robotic-arm assisted total knee replacement using the Mako SmartRobotics platform is the standard of care in our programme. Pre-operative CT-based three-dimensional planning creates a patient-specific virtual surgical model, and intraoperative haptic resistance ensures every bone cut matches the plan with sub-millimetre accuracy. This precision translates into superior implant alignment, more natural knee kinematics, and potentially longer implant survivorship compared to conventional instrumented techniques.

Total hip arthroplasty employs robotic assistance and computer navigation to achieve precise cup inclination and anteversion, leg length restoration, and femoral offset — the key determinants of hip biomechanics, stability, and long-term function. Cementless press-fit implant fixation with biological bone ingrowth is standard for most patients under 75; cemented fixation is used for those with poor bone quality. The direct anterior approach — through a muscle-sparing interval — reduces recovery time and allows early unrestricted mobilisation.

Enhanced recovery protocols encompass preoperative patient optimisation and education, spinal anaesthesia, multimodal analgesia minimising opioid requirements, same-day surgery mobilisation with physiotherapy, and discharge planning from the day of admission. Most patients are walking within hours of surgery and go home within two days. Post-discharge physiotherapy — including both outpatient and home-based programmes — is structured to achieve full functional independence within six to twelve weeks.

Revision joint replacement for failed primary implants — requiring removal of well-fixed components, addressing bone deficiency, and restoring biomechanics — is among the most technically demanding procedures in orthopaedic surgery and is performed by our most experienced revision surgeons. Our joint replacement outcomes including implant survivorship, Oxford Knee and Hip Scores, complication rates, and readmission rates are reported to national joint registries, enabling transparent benchmarking and continuous quality improvement.
