Prostate & Urological Cancer Centre
The Prostate & Urological Cancer Centre at SilverOak Health provides specialist, multidisciplinary care for cancers of the prostate, kidney, bladder, testis, upper urinary tract, and penis. Our team of urological oncologists, medical oncologists, and radiation oncologists collaborates within a dedicated urological cancer MDT, ensuring every patient receives an evidence-based, personalised treatment plan that considers both oncological outcomes and functional preservation.
Prostate cancer management encompasses active surveillance for low-risk disease, robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy for localised cancer, stereotactic body radiotherapy and low/high-dose-rate brachytherapy for radiation candidates, and hormone therapy with novel antiandrogens — enzalutamide, apalutamide, darolutamide — and abiraterone for advanced and metastatic disease. PSMA PET-CT for biochemical recurrence detection and molecular targeting, and lutetium-PSMA radioligand therapy for metastatic castration-resistant prostate cancer, represent the most advanced systemic options in our programme.
Kidney cancer surgery employs robotic-assisted partial nephrectomy — maximising nephron preservation while achieving complete tumour excision — and radical nephrectomy for large or complex tumours. Thermal ablation (radiofrequency and cryoablation) guided by CT or ultrasound is offered for small renal masses in patients unsuitable for surgery. Targeted therapies (sunitinib, pazopanib, cabozantinib) and immune checkpoint inhibition combinations (nivolumab plus ipilimumab, pembrolizumab plus axitinib) define the landscape of medical treatment for advanced renal cell carcinoma.
Bladder cancer management includes endoscopic transurethral resection, intravesical BCG and chemotherapy for non-muscle-invasive disease, and robotic-assisted radical cystectomy with ileal conduit or orthotopic neobladder construction for muscle-invasive and high-risk non-muscle-invasive disease. Enhanced imaging including blue-light cystoscopy and narrow-band imaging improves detection of flat, high-grade lesions at surveillance cystoscopy. Testicular cancer surgery, retroperitoneal lymph node dissection, and platinum-based chemotherapy achieve cure rates exceeding 95% for most testicular cancer presentations.
Upper tract urothelial carcinoma is managed by ureteroscopic biopsy and ablation for low-risk lesions, and nephroureterectomy for high-grade disease. Our urooncology specialist nurses support patients through treatment, managing catheter care, ostomy education, sexual function counselling, and long-term surveillance follow-up. Patient outcomes including margin rates, continence recovery, complication rates, and cancer-specific survival are prospectively collected and submitted to national urological cancer databases.
