About

Dr. Edward Robinson is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty training in foot, ankle, and minimally invasive spinal surgery. He earned his medical degree from the University of Virginia School of Medicine and completed orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Virginia Health System, followed by a foot and ankle surgery fellowship at Emory University and an additional minimally invasive spine fellowship at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

Dr. Robinson's foot and ankle practice includes total ankle arthroplasty, ankle arthroscopy, Achilles tendon repair and reconstruction, hallux valgus correction, flatfoot reconstruction, and management of ankle instability. He has been an early adopter of total ankle replacement as an alternative to fusion for end-stage ankle arthritis, achieving excellent outcomes in a carefully selected patient population that values mobility and activity over the guaranteed rigidity of arthrodesis.

His minimally invasive spine practice encompasses posterior lumbar interbody fusion, decompressive laminectomy and foraminotomy, and minimally invasive surgery for degenerative lumbar disc disease, stenosis, and spondylolisthesis. He employs tubular retractor systems and intraoperative navigation to minimise tissue trauma, reduce blood loss, and enable same-day or next-day hospital discharge for appropriate patients.

Dr. Robinson has published on patient-reported outcomes following total ankle arthroplasty and minimally invasive lumbar decompression, with work appearing in Foot and Ankle International and the Journal of Spinal Disorders and Techniques. He participates in outcomes registries for both ankle arthroplasty and minimally invasive spine surgery and presents regularly at subspecialty society meetings. His patients describe his thorough, empathetic consultation style and his clear explanation of both surgical and non-surgical treatment options as hallmarks of his clinical approach.
