About

Dr. Richard Parker is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons with 23 years of experience in adult reconstructive orthopaedic surgery. He completed medical school, orthopaedic surgery residency, and an adult reconstruction and joint replacement fellowship at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York — consistently ranked the number-one orthopaedic hospital in the United States — where he trained under pioneers of modern joint replacement technique.

Dr. Parker's surgical practice is focused on primary and revision total hip and knee arthroplasty, including robotic-assisted joint replacement using the Mako system, which enables sub-millimetre accuracy in implant positioning and improved long-term implant survival. He is one of the highest-volume arthroplasty surgeons in his region, performing over 400 joint replacement procedures annually, and has built a centre of excellence in revision arthroplasty for patients with failed primary replacements, infected prostheses, and periprosthetic fractures.

His research on implant longevity, optimal bearing surface combinations in total hip arthroplasty, and outcomes following robotic-assisted versus conventional knee replacement has been published in the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery and the Journal of Arthroplasty. He serves on the Knee Society's outcomes research committee and is a regular invited faculty member at the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons annual meeting.

Dr. Parker is a proponent of rapid recovery protocols following joint replacement, enabling the majority of his patients to mobilise on the day of surgery and return home within 24 hours. He believes that patient education and expectation management are essential components of a successful joint replacement programme, and he runs pre-operative joint replacement classes that prepare patients for surgery, anaesthesia, and rehabilitation. He has been recognised among the nation's top orthopaedic surgeons by multiple healthcare ranking organisations for fifteen consecutive years.
