Dr. Nancy Phillips

Dr. Nancy Phillips is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty expertise in shoulder and elbow surgery, having earned her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and completed orthopaedic surgery residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, followed by a shoulder and elbow surgery fellowship at Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

Dr. Phillips performs the full spectrum of shoulder and elbow surgical procedures, including anatomical and reverse total shoulder arthroplasty, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair and labral stabilisation, biceps tenodesis, and shoulder replacement revision surgery. Her elbow surgery expertise encompasses total elbow arthroplasty, lateral and medial epicondyle release, ulnar nerve transposition, and arthroscopic elbow debridement for arthritis. She is one of few surgeons in the region offering superior capsular reconstruction for irreparable rotator cuff tears as an alternative to shoulder replacement in younger, active patients.

Her sports medicine practice treats a broad range of upper extremity injuries in athletes across all levels of competition, from throwing athlete shoulder injuries and UCL reconstruction (Tommy John surgery) in baseball players to shoulder instability in contact sport athletes. She serves as a consultant to a professional baseball organisation and provides consultation services to collegiate athletic programmes.

Dr. Phillips has published on outcomes following reverse total shoulder arthroplasty and UCL reconstruction in overhead athletes, with work appearing in the Journal of Shoulder and Elbow Surgery and the American Journal of Sports Medicine. She is an active member of the American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons and has been recognised with Washington University's Outstanding Clinical Faculty Award. She is a strong advocate for conservative management where appropriate, ensuring that surgery is recommended only when non-operative measures have been given a genuine trial.
