About Silvaris Transplant Center — Phoenix, AZ
SilverOak Transplant Center in Phoenix is a 180-bed specialty hospital and the largest organ transplantation program in the desert Southwest, offering comprehensive evaluation, surgery, and lifelong post-transplant care for kidney, liver, heart, and lung recipients. Established to address the significant unmet need for transplant access among Arizona's rapidly growing population and the many patients across Nevada, New Mexico, and Utah who previously traveled out of state for this care, SilverOak Phoenix has performed more than 3,200 transplants since its founding.
Our living donor program is one of the most active in the western United States, facilitating both directed and non-directed living kidney and liver lobe donation with an outcomes record that consistently exceeds national standards. We employ two dedicated living donor advocates — independent of the transplant team — to ensure that prospective donors receive unbiased education, thorough medical evaluation, and protected decision-making throughout the evaluation process. Our paired kidney exchange program has matched and completed more than 180 donor-recipient swaps, enabling transplantation for patients who would otherwise remain on the deceased donor waitlist.
Post-transplant management at SilverOak Phoenix is distinguished by the continuity and intensity of our follow-up program. Transplant recipients are seen at one week, one month, three months, six months, and one year post-transplant as standard protocol, with additional visits as indicated. Our immunosuppression management clinic, staffed by transplant pharmacists and advanced practice providers, optimizes drug regimens to balance rejection prevention against infection risk and long-term toxicity — a precision approach that has contributed to our five-year graft survival rates ranking in the top quartile nationally.
Phoenix's desert climate presents unique considerations for transplant recipients, whose immunosuppressed state makes sun-exposure-related skin cancer one of the most significant long-term health risks. SilverOak Phoenix's transplant dermatology clinic — one of only a handful in the country — provides routine surveillance and early treatment of squamous cell carcinoma and other cutaneous malignancies in our post-transplant population, a proactive approach that substantially reduces cancer-related morbidity and mortality in this high-risk group.
