In-Centre Haemodialysis

In-centre haemodialysis is the most widely used form of renal replacement therapy for end-stage kidney disease, performed three times per week for four hours per session in SilverOak Health's dedicated dialysis unit. During haemodialysis, the patient's blood is circulated through an extracorporeal circuit — passing through an artificial kidney (dialyser) where waste products, excess fluid, and electrolytes are removed by diffusion and convection across a semipermeable membrane — before being returned to the body.

Vascular access is a critical determinant of dialysis quality and patient safety. Arteriovenous fistula (AVF) — surgically created by joining an artery and vein, typically at the wrist or forearm — is the preferred access for its superior flow rates, longevity, and low infection risk. Our vascular access team creates and maintains fistulae using minimally invasive surgical and endovascular techniques, monitoring fistula maturation and intervening promptly for stenosis or thrombosis to minimise access failure and treatment interruption.

SilverOak Health's dialysis unit operates six days per week with morning, afternoon, and evening shifts, managed by a dedicated nephrology nursing team and overseen by consultant nephrologists who review every patient's clinical status, dialysis adequacy parameters (Kt/V, URR), and fluid management at regular intervals. Haemodiafiltration — an enhanced form of haemodialysis that combines diffusion with high-volume convection — is offered to patients who tolerate higher volumes, providing superior clearance of medium-molecular-weight uraemic toxins associated with improved cardiovascular outcomes. Nutritional support, anaemia management, bone-mineral disease treatment, and psychosocial support complete our integrated dialysis care programme.
