Lung Cancer & Thoracic Oncology Centre
The Lung Cancer & Thoracic Oncology Centre at SilverOak Health provides expert multidisciplinary management of lung cancer, mesothelioma, thymoma, and other thoracic malignancies. Our team of thoracic oncologists, thoracic surgeons, radiation oncologists, interventional pulmonologists, and oncology specialist nurses meets at weekly thoracic tumour boards to ensure every patient receives an evidence-based, personalised treatment plan from the moment of diagnosis.
Comprehensive molecular profiling of all non-squamous and selected squamous non-small cell lung cancers identifies EGFR, ALK, ROS1, KRAS G12C, BRAF, MET exon 14, RET, and NTRK driver alterations that direct targeted therapy selection. PD-L1 expression and tumour mutational burden guide immunotherapy eligibility. Liquid biopsy using circulating tumour DNA enables real-time monitoring of treatment response, early resistance detection, and identification of acquired resistance mechanisms that guide subsequent treatment sequencing.
Thoracic surgery for early-stage lung cancer employs video-assisted and robotic-assisted thoracoscopic lobectomy, segmentectomy, and sub-lobar resection through minimally invasive approaches, achieving equivalent oncological outcomes to open thoracotomy with significantly reduced morbidity, shorter hospital stay, and faster functional recovery. Pre-operative physiological assessment and post-operative respiratory rehabilitation optimise outcomes in patients with limited pulmonary reserve.
Stereotactic body radiotherapy using CyberKnife or SABR delivers ablative doses to early-stage lung tumours and oligometastatic disease with sub-millimetre precision, achieving local control rates equivalent to surgery in inoperable patients. Concurrent chemoradiotherapy for locally advanced unresectable disease is delivered according to the latest protocols, with durvalumab consolidation immunotherapy for eligible patients improving overall survival.
Endobronchial ultrasound-guided mediastinal staging, electromagnetic navigation bronchoscopy for peripheral lesion biopsy, bronchoscopic tumour ablation, and endobronchial valve placement for emphysema are performed by our interventional pulmonology team. Palliative and supportive care, integrated from the point of diagnosis, ensures symptom management, psychological support, and quality-of-life optimisation alongside active cancer treatment throughout the disease course.
