Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Surgery Centre
The Minimally Invasive Gynaecological Surgery Centre at SilverOak Health is led by advanced laparoscopic surgeons with subspecialty expertise in complex benign gynaecological conditions, offering the full range of laparoscopic and hysteroscopic procedures that enable effective surgical treatment with dramatically reduced recovery compared to traditional open approaches. Our programme is a recognised referral centre for complex endometriosis, fibroid surgery, and pelvic floor disorders.
Laparoscopic procedures performed at our centre include total laparoscopic hysterectomy — our highest-volume procedure — laparoscopic myomectomy for fibroid removal with uterine preservation, laparoscopic ovarian cystectomy and oophorectomy, salpingostomy and salpingectomy for ectopic pregnancy, laparoscopic treatment of pelvic inflammatory disease complications, and laparoscopic sacrocolpopexy for pelvic organ prolapse. Robotic-assisted approaches are available for complex cases where additional instrument dexterity and three-dimensional visualisation improve safety and precision.
Endometriosis surgery is a particular expertise of our programme. Deep infiltrating endometriosis involving the bowel, bladder, ureters, ovaries, and pelvic peritoneum demands a dedicated multidisciplinary team — our gynaecological endometriosis surgeons work alongside colorectal surgeons, urologists, and pain management specialists for the most complex resections. Excision of all visible endometriosis — including bowel resection when required — rather than ablation or fulguration achieves superior pain relief, lower recurrence rates, and improved fertility outcomes.
Hysteroscopic procedures — performed entirely through the cervical canal without abdominal incisions — encompass endometrial polypectomy, submucosal fibroid resection with bipolar energy, Asherman's syndrome lysis of intrauterine adhesions, uterine septum division, and global endometrial ablation for heavy menstrual bleeding refractory to medical management. Office hysteroscopy under local anaesthesia is offered for diagnostic and simple operative procedures, significantly reducing patient inconvenience and NHS waiting times.
Our laparoscopic skill extends to oncological procedures — staging surgery for endometrial cancer, laparoscopic trachelectomy for cervical cancer with fertility preservation, and laparoscopic management of borderline ovarian tumours. Fertility-sparing approaches are prioritised for women of reproductive age, with careful counselling regarding the balance between completeness of surgery and future fertility potential. Post-operative enhanced recovery pathways with same-day or next-day discharge for the majority of laparoscopic procedures ensure rapid return to normal activities.
